Our Chief Engineer tells me that one thing that everyone should do regardless of what NetApp filer you have and what version of Ontap you are running, it is important to zero your spare drives. It can save you down time in the event of a drive failure. You see, part of the recovery process is to zero the replacement drive, if this is already done, that is one possibly long step out of the way, saving time and getting your system up and running.
